Okay, no games posted by GGAOTD. But have ya'll noticed all the time and effort (on this Games Discussion forum) Whiterabbit puts into supplying us with links to free games all during the week... at least several a day? And some mighty good ones at that. As well as wizzard of ozz and reverse order, on a regular basis. Link for synopsis:
http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/forums/topic/4534
And yes, it would be nice if we had a short confirmation that there's no use to keep checking for a game, especially for those on dial-up. That's not asking much at all. But I've got a bulging folder full of games from Wrabbit and the other daily game posters, so no I'm not hurtin' for free games. Thanks, Wrabbit, wizz, rO, et al! :)

I'm new to GOTD and am happy to have gotten some useful free software, great games, and excellent support when I hit an issue with a game or software. As someone more on the novice side, I've also learned quit a bit through reading comments at the giveaways and in the forum.
I hope GGOTD doesn't close down in these changing times. The makers of games should know that downloading here has lead me to their sites. I've registered and purchased from two, and I've been here all of a month.
I just want to add to those who don't like having check GGOTD repeatedly or refresh constantly might find signing up for email notifications helpful.

To all in these hard times, if I were a developer I would be doing everything possible to get my product in front of people. This is a great way to do it. Maybe they should give out a limited amount of their games or discount them for a limited amount of people. You can not sell games in today's competitive market without doing something to draw us in. There are many sights that do this and are prospering.
My prediction, if this continues to be the norm here, it will wither and die. There may be a few loyal's who come back and say those famous word,"what no game today" as they are watering the grave. I wonder if they have the logs of total hits this sight has had since started. That would be interesting to look at.
I'll tell you, if it weren't for WR and a few others who offer links to other games, I am willing to bet that a whole lot less people would be here.Hey Rox, I was hormonally challenged over there, so I retired my monogram "russinindy"
But I am still there WINKPosted 15 years ago # -
Surprise surprise no games today, and wow no comments from ggod.
Posted 15 years ago # -
Well, they did comment... said starting May 8 they were on vacation. Happened around this time last year also. Thanks to Wrabbit for filling in, as usual! :)
Posted 15 years ago # -
The games are FREE so i'm just gratefull when one is posted.
Posted 15 years ago # -
Vacation from what.LOL Last year they said they were going on vacation and showed back up about 7 weeks later. Yes the games are free, but what use is a free game when it is not there? Oh well, back to Big Fish.
Posted 15 years ago # -
True, Russinindy... there are other places. I used to just check the games here, but I've grown to like the posters, and check in more to see what the Rabbit has up his sleeve or what other's have found.

May I echo that midori?
I like to stop in every day; formerly I did just to see what games or downloads were on offer but have come to enjoy this community very much..
:)Posted 15 years ago # -
I do not post often........actually only 2 or 3 times have I posted anything and that was usually just to WR. I would like to personally thank EVERYONE involved in the offers given here. You people totally rock. From game giveaways, to advice, to fun conversations, etc. Yes we have to take the good with the bad. And if there is nothing "free" offered as far as a game big whoop-dee-do! These people put alot of their own time and effort into everything they do here for everyone. And what do they get in return....aside from some kind words and simple thank yous from a few community members....alot of complaining and whining that someone didn't get their free "toy". It is just so sad. Yes I look forward to checking the site for the free game. But if it doesn't come oh well. There are many other things that I can do. I can go to alot of the websites and check out the offers they have, download trials to see if I like them (and hope they get offered thru here), play games online, or oh my heavens, could it even be possible, read a book or watch tv, or even spend time with the family playing an actual game that requires more movement than using my mouse or keyboard.
...........
..........
So, to all of you who share so much of your time and effort giving us all the free gifts, entertainment, fun, conversation, and assistance, I THANK YOU IMMENSLY!!!!
You are truly wonderful people. Won't mention names cuz I don't want to forget any of them, but you all know who you are.
..........
..........
to those of you who just want to whine and throw a tantrum .....GROW UP!!! I thought you had to be a certain age to be a member and from alot of the posts I have read here, the kindergarten kids I work with everyday seem more mature to me.
(I apologize if i offend anyone but please note I am NOT mentioning names to single anyone out)Posted 15 years ago # -
Thanks bikukiblue
It's community members like yourself and many others who occasionally say such words that makes it all worth it.As for this weeks lack of a game giveaway; I think some of the games I've posted info and links to download pages are as good if not better than a lot of the game giveaways we've been given over the last year. I've posted several games for last weekend and this weekend. There's a great variety to find. If none of the ones I've recently posted whet your appetite then check out the free games synopsis that G@rgoyle so kindly put together. There are over 600 free games to be found, some of which are abandoned commercial titles, a few are ad supported, and some are just free. You could also check out Gamehouse as they give a free ad supported game every day. I haven't seen many repeats lately. Gametop and freegamepick also have a good catalogue of commercial games for free, though as mentioned elsewhere you need to watch the installation process for tick boxes otherwise you'll find your home page hijacked or unwanted toolbars installed, still they have some great games. There are many other places as well, some of which I use as a source for the weekday games project. Most are easily found using Google. :)
Have a great weekend folks.
I only wish I could share my own paid for collection of arcade games (well over a thousand). I have a ridiculous number, many of which I never play, unfortunately I don't think you can transfer the licences.

his was in the blogs...
Game Giveaway Of The Day vacations seasonHello everyone!
Our team has left for vacations season and games will not be provided for a while.
If there are any games (new or rerun) you want to see on our site, please feel free to post your suggestions as comments to this very post!
Looking forward to your responses!
Yours sincerely,
GameGiveawayOfTheDay project teamPosted 15 years ago # -
sorry midori i didn't notice your post above!

Come to think about it, checking on the games has been a second thought and I always at least skim through WR's links to see if anything juicy is out there. Maybe Stephen needs to start his own sight! Maybe WR's links of the day. But you pretty much do that here already. I have found some excellent sights from this forum and some very valuable tech support that saved me numerous hours of calls, emails and interpreters. I thank the collective for that. So I guess I am one of those who found a nugget in an empty well, no matter how deep it gets I will still come back to see if I can find another. CYL Russ
P.S. Call it whining moaning griping childish immature whatever, I call it an opinion no one needs to scold lecture berate intimidate ridicule or insult me for doing it. If you don't agree than that's fine. Condescending holier than thou attitudes don't phase me.

I agree that many whine because they don't get free stuff. But how unreasonable is it for some people to comment when a store that's supposed to be open is closed and dark without an explanation? Would threads like this even exist, or have more than a couple of posts in them, if GOTD used a blog that they partly created for that purpose to notify people when there is no game, or about any other problems? That doesn't bother me, but what does is when I see well meaning people who love this project mistakenly lumping people who raise legitimate concerns, calling them ingrates, in with the real ungrateful trolls.
A. Getting stuff free should not excuse all blemishes.
B. GOTD is a business, not a charity. They may be nice people, but they didn't adopt this business model out of the goodness of thier hearts. They get theirs, too.
C. Does anyone really think that if we criticize GOTD that they'll "take their ball and go home"? Wouldn't that be cutting off their nose to spite their face?Again, GOTD would have less complaints if they were more communicative and not everybody raises concerns just because they're ingrates.
Posted 15 years ago # -
Hi, watcher... I think GOTD's main project is obviously the software, and when they cut the games back to weekends that was sort of telling. They can't give away what they can't get. But sure, the games are great when we get them, and t'would be nice if they were more freeflowing. But they did announce in their blog that there wouldn't be any games for awhile... some people tend to complain before they look for an answer or explanation. And expressing concern is one thing; being sarcastic about the team and whether they deserve a vacation or not is another. And I never did see the term "ingrate" used, though I'm sure they do exist out there. I tend to ignore those that only jump in when there's a negative remark to make. If we were paying customers, I guess that would be more warranted. I simply like the posters here... free game or not. *&:-)

I appreciate your sincere sentiments, Midori, but there's a lot I can't agree on. My general feelings about criticism here are closer to Russinindy's.
We, justifiably, get upset here when newbies complain about something without reading the instructions. But, did we really look at this thread before we took these people to task? This thread was started by our good member, Merri, who was only wondering what happened. The only complaints expressed in the first 10 posts was a desire that GOTD should post when there was no game, and some were "bummed" that there was no game. Is being bummed because there's no game all that strange or bad? GOTD should start to worry if no one's bummed when there's no game.
The only response that was really necessary is what Whiterabbit posted about the difficulty of getting games, which you have to admit, people don't know about because GOTD doesn't like to admit it. And some of us seem to be embarrassed to admit it, too. It's true that people should realize that if there's no game at 0:05 GOTD time, there probably isn't going to be one. But why would a newbie ever expect that to happen, and so, ever even think about it? The reason Merri, not a newbie, started the thread in the first place is because GOTD did not post anything until a week after they had skipped a weekend, long after most of the posts which opened this thread.
I've seen ungrateful used in the comments section, and I even found it a few times by doing a forum search. Anyway, I think words like "spoiled" and "temper fit", used by very good members of this forum in this thread, pretty much express the same sentiment. I didn't see any temper fits among those early posters. Now, if you want to see a temper fit, I know how to throw a temper fit.
Just because we're not "paying" customers doesn't mean we're not part of the profit margin. My friends, we are not here because of GOTD and the developers. They are here because of US. If we were not here, the developers would be off looking for other ways to cut through the jungle of competition, and the staff of GOTD would be off somewhere else trying to make a buck. Frankly, I'm tired of those who insinuate that we're pitiful beggars standing in front of a soup kitchen. You don't hear the beta testers testing products from MS and Apple constantly saying, "Thank you, Great Lord, for allowing us unwashed unworthies to test your products". That's not to say I don't like GOTD a lot. It's just to say that I don't feel like an unworthy freeloader. I hope GOTD is as grateful to us as many of us are to them.
Somebody said we don't thank GOTD enough. Maybe not, but we thank them a lot. Some people in the comments section seem unable to post without saying "Thank you, GOTD". I haven't seen a comment section where a least a quarter of the posters aren't expressing positive thoughts about the project or at least being thankful for that days software. Often, a lot more. And having more posts when there's a problem than vice versa is only natural. After all, you wouldn't give advice on how to adhere to a tight schedule to a railroad who's trains always run on time.
Bluntly, a lot of this is just because members of this forum don't like to say what, I for one, feel: "GOTD is a great project, but there are occassional problems, and GOTD doesn't like to post admiting to them." There. Now how hard was that?
Or as a member named Lizil expressed it in this forum a year ago:
"okay - could we stop whining about the whining? Its getting almost as bad as the whining". Of course, I'm just as guilty. I need to stop whining about the whining about the whining. :)I'm sorry, Midori. I, too, like the posters here and you're certainly on that list. I'm just pleading with folks to not get so frustrated with a few bad apples that we drive a lot of good people away. I don't think that most, if not all, the people who started this thread were really sinning that badly. Really, I don't think they were sinning at all.
Posted 15 years ago # -
I do agree with you, watcher... there were no sins committed here, and I never implied that, or didn't think I did. Of course Merri had the right to start this thread... I would've also, had I not seen the blog this time. And I think everyone's posts here were fine, tho some did say there was no explanation, (which there wasn't, as of last week) but who are we to question whether the GOTD team deserves a vacation or not. That was my only "ouch" spot (not your post), and someone else may have reacted to it also. But all is well here! So let's not make it something it's not. And I enjoy your input here, along with everyone else's. Peace.

Peace.

thanks Watcher 13!
and Midori too..
Peace indeed!
:)Posted 15 years ago # -
Well said Watcher13. You've made many valid points, expressing them in a way which I would call a "whine free atmosphere". May be that many of the folks that are being condemned for whining are just not at all as articulate at expressing their selves as you are. As for all those that are really and truly just whining, would you care for so cheeeeeese and crackers with it? :)
Posted 15 years ago # -
Lol, murphyslaw... and an interesting web page you have there. :)
Posted 15 years ago # -
Thanks, Murphyslaw, but really I should apologize to people in this forum. I really need to learn to be less argumentive and try to make my points more gently and respectfully. And less long windedly! Feel free to remind me of that, folks.
That is an interesting page you've got, Murph. Maybe that cartoon with the two little tykes explains why I'm on edge and so rarely satisfied. I knew I was doing something wrong!
Posted 15 years ago # -
Thanks midori and watcher13 on the comments on my web pages I hope "interesting" is a good thing, lol. @ watcher13 i really don't think you were argumentative or long winded. In my opinion you have no need to apologize, Your statements IMO were a long time coming and you said just what needed to be stated.
Posted 15 years ago # -
Very well thought out statement Watcher. I love your analogy of the store. wish I thought of it LOL. Has any of you checked out the new faunasphere at BigFish? from what I have heard this is going to be another fun place to play when it is out of beta testing. Hope you all have a great week, not whining about no games. I still think they should change this sights name so that it is not confusing http://game.giveawayoftheday.com/ is not accurate.

I didn't read every single post here but I gotta say....
Ya know....the staff members here at GOTD DO have lives outside of this forum. (1 cent)
Thanks guys.....I appreciate all you do and I'd be heartbroken if this site were suddenly to vanish. (1 cent)
There's my 2 cents.
Hugs to all

Okay, I really didn't start coming to these forums until recently, when the realization hit me that there would be NO game giveaway today or possibly any other day. While I do appreciate the GAOTD crew immensely, I am in agreement with those others of you who think they should at least acknowledge that they will NOT be having a game giveaway. It's just simple courtesy, that's all. I also want to say that I have found these forums very helpful in finding OTHER sites where we can all download free games or at least play online versions of them. I found MostFun.com because of some people here and have downloaded several full-version games because of that. The ONLY thing I dislike about those games is the constant advertisements you are forced to watch unless you shell out $19.95 per game (not gonna happen here). Otherwise, it's a great deal and I'm sure there are many others. So my suggestion is to keep our own communication flowing freely here on the forums and sharing game sites with one another (as WhiteRabbit has been so faithful about doing). I appreciate everyone's input here -- have a lovely rest of the weekend! :-)
Posted 15 years ago # -
@jenany: They did acknowledge there aren't any games these weekends. They said they were on vacation season. See their second latest blog post.

Hugs back at you, Buckley's Mom. I was debating whether to post in response, I'm sure I'm constantly being seen as trying to have the last word. However, I think I should clarify. Really, what I was trying to say was that GOTD by often remaining silent is sometimes doing itself more harm than good. And sometimes the devoted veterans of this site also do more harm than good.
What I mean is: on the first point - You can't really count volunteers like Bubby and Whiterabbit. They're not GOTD staff. If GOTD staff were to post here once a week saying, "We're still alive" it would very likely be more than they normally participate in this forum, so, respectfully, I hardly think this forum has ever interfered with their lives. After all, one of the principal reasons of this forum was to provide them feedback, but I don't think even Bubby and WR could say for sure that they get significant feedback from it. They certainly don't use it to build up good feelings for their project, which many developers do. They kind of presumptiously leave us to do their dirty work on that score.
On the 2nd point, I can see where criticism can drive away developers. But, I feel, we have to be careful not to jump on newbies for asking what are often reasonable questions. Some ask them rudely, but a lot of that's just frustration. All jumping on them does is drive people away.
In other words, I was gratified by GOTDs two recent blog posts. I think that's the smart way to go. And I think the way GMMan has answered Jenany's question above is also the right way to go about it. Right or wrong, not everybody realizes to check the blog for notices. And many of us have gotten used to GOTD using that blog maybe once a quarter!
Sorry, Buckley'smom. I'm not trying to put extra burden on GOTD. I'm just encouraging courteous use of the line of communications by all parties. Also, I too would miss this sight, but GOTDs not gonna fold the tent over a little, hopefully constructive, criticism. There's no money in that.
Posted 15 years ago # -
w13.....No need to apologize, as i said, it was just my 2 cents. Actually I do agree that letting us know what's up is common courtesy .....but isn't that what they did by saying, "Our team has left for vacations season and games will not be provided for a while."? That's kind of open ended so that should be all anyone needs. Just MHO.
Hugs (again)
