Looks very good software, but the 'key.lic'file which the readme file says is included in the installation package doesn´t appear to be there.

BuBBy posted in the comments section that he has notified the powers that be that the download needs to be fixed as it doesn't contain the license key. Hopefully the problem will be fixed shortly.

I'm sorry to take up anyone's time with this, but I just can't seem to get my copy of GKB to register. Senile I guess. I can't copy the key.lic, (Control C won't do it.) let alone move it, and I also can't seem to drag and drop it to an appropriate place either. (Or any place for that matter.) Could anyone be of assistance to someone who just can't seem to get things done correctly? It would also be greatly appreciated if you could explain in VERY simple terms. Thank-you in advance.

Hi.
Please try again:
-Use Control+C to copy the key.lic
-Next use Control+V to paste it in the C:\Program Files\General Knowledge Base\2.4 folder.~Robert~

Thanks Robert.
It still doesn't work. Guess this is the time that I am the one who doesn't get the giveaway. It has only happened twice before and I have D'LD many things, so I guess my average is pretty good.
Tomorrow is another day and if the program is to my liking, I will try to D'L then.
Thanks again.

Hi, OldandSlo :)
Perhaps this will work for you. It's the basically the same as Robert instructed. Just a slightly different method.
Using your mouse right click on the key.lic. A menu will appear, as it does choose "copy" and click on it (copy).
Then go to the folder where you've installed the program to. C:\Program files/General Knowledge Base/2.4 or wherever your preferred program insulation folder is located.
Open the folder, then right click in an empty area of the folder. The menu will appear again, this time simply choose "paste" and click on it. That's it. You should be good to go. Enjoy! :)

I just downloaded GKB and had no problem dropping the key.lic file into the GKB folder,...it shows registered to GOTD at re-launch.

Welcome to the forums!
OldandSlo
Don't throw away the "key.lic" yet.Since you have already installed the program, you will still be able to register the program.
Now tell us a little bit more about the OS you are running (XP,Vista,Win98?)Just a quick thought.
It looks to me some program is blocking your action or interfering with it.
It might be your virus or malware scanner.Try again disabling the virus/malware scanner temporarily (offline).Posted 16 years ago # -
Hi Sarahbeth, Bessee, Robert.
Thank-you for the attempt at helping someone who has a difficult time understanding the computer. I know just enough to get myself into BIG trouble!!!!
I haven't uninstalled GKB....yet anyhow.
FYI. I have XP SP2 (sounds like SP3 needs some work yet - so not for me as I don't need to add any problems to those I already have!!!!) on Pentium III 733. Using Windows Defender, Avast AV, & Spyware Doctor. - None of which have given me a problem with any D'L before. (To my knowledge.)
BTW. When I right-click there is no "Copy", just 6 things which are Open, Extract To, Delete, Add to Zip, Select, Select All. I should add that Powerdesk 6 is running. I would disable that, but I can't figure out how short of uninstalling it. - Been thinking about that, though.
Again, a BIG Thank-you. but I don't think at this point that GKB is worth all this trouble.???

Terry,
You shouldn't uninstall Powerdesk. It is a fine program.
What you can do:(if you still want to)
-open the downloaded file with Powerdesk.
-select the lic.key
-choose extract to :
C:\Program Files\General Knowledge Base\2.4
OKGood luck!

THANK-YOU!!!!
The last instructions that you gave me actually worked. It now says that I have a registered copy of GKB and not an unregistered one. And this 2 days after the fact. I had no hope that it would work today, but it did. Shows how LITTLE I know.
Anyway, thanks for the patience and persistence you have shown with me, and may you have many great days ahead!!
