I don't use social networking. When I click on the link provided to get a personal download link via email, NOTHING HAPPENS! I understand the reason for wanting folks to use Facebook or Twitter to get the software but I don't understand why clicking on the email link DOES NOTHING! This happened in the past and apparently the problem has returned! Can whatever fix to this problem be made PERMANENT and not DISAPPEAR??

Hi Carol M
There is no need to jump over all those hurdles.
You can download directly like usual.
Please read the explanation:

Thanks for the fast response.
However, the link to get a personal download link via email either should work or it should be removed and a notice posted that the software can be downloaded directly from the vendor's website.

The download link doesn't go to the vendors website.
Please look at the screenshot Robert posted. It's the normal GOTD package.
There is no guaranty that the developer version will work with the GOTD license.
Sometimes the downloads from the developer even contains adware.Posted 9 years ago # -
When I click on the link provided to get a personal download link via email, NOTHING HAPPENS!
I've no desire or need for today's GOTD, but I went ahead & tried going the email route & for me at least it worked perfectly. Clicked the download link, got the pop-up for F/Book, email etc., clicked the email link, the pop-up changed to show a box where I could enter an email address, did that & clicked the link to submit the address, & got my email, clicked the link in the email, & my default browser [ie] opened asking me if I wanted to save or open the zip file.
It's possible the site wasn't working right when you tried it Carol, or you might have a problem with the web browser you're using. That said, graylox is correct, it's much easier to just use the direct link on the pop-up.

I just tried clicking on the email link again and it worked like it should. There is nothing wrong with my web browser. I suspect there was some problem with the GAOTD link to get a personal download link via email. What ever the situation, it is now working like it should.
I question getting the software via the direct link. I'm not sure what the difference is but the GAOTD zip file has a ".GCD" file which the Readme.txt file in the zip file says is important. I don't know how the direct link file works since that file is a .exe file.
Since the program is being given away from GAOTD, I believe the file one should use should be the one obtained from GAOTD.

I don't know how the direct link file works since that file is a .exe file.
It shouldn't be. I just tried it & downloaded "TeentorStarter20-uie3w1.zip".
Chris &/or graylox might be able to suggest some other possible reasons you got an .exe file, but the only two I can think of at the moment was either you clicked on an ad, or there's something on your system re-directing you to another site & download.
Personally I feel everyone should run AdBlock Plus or similar to help prevent bad things from happening due to mal-vertising, but that's just my opinion. Because I run ABP I sometimes forget how sneaky ads can be. GOTD, like most every site on the web, sells ad space to an ad network. That ad network is responsible for the ads that are shown, but they most often don't vet those ads in any way -- they just sell their services to the highest bidder.
Your caution re: downloading an .exe file is/was warranted. I've never seen an .exe file offered as a GOTD download over several years -- that's something they just haven't done & don't do now. I can't believe the link to an .exe file came from or had anything to do with GOTD.
As above I'd humbly suggest the free ABP, & if this issue or anything similar re-occurs, I'd just as humbly suggest checking or having your system checked for mal-ware. [https://adblockplus.org/]

Carol please look at the screenshot Robert posted.
You need no Facebook, you need no email address, just click the link for the direct download from GOTD.
We don't want you to go to the developers website to grab the download there. That could be an exe. But as Mikiem wrote, GOTD never delivers any exe file.
Again: Get help from Robert's screenshot. It can't be any easier explained.Emperor gave the hint (the comment above the screenshot):

However, I did see that right at the bottom of the pop-up page there is a link in small text that allows downloading without the need to use social media.

Carol, if you're like me you use "NoSquint" or something similar. You can't see the direct link unless you reset the magnification back to 100%. It's off the screen at 105% and there isn't a scrolling bar.

Thanks Chris, I didn't notice that.

The problem I experienced is NOT a result of magnification. It doesn't work at one time and then works at another time and I did NOT make any changes to the settings of my monitor!
People should NOT have to change settings on their computer monitors in order to view a website correctly! I've found that many, many websites are not programmed to accommodate people who have specific monitor settings for valid reasons.

I do not see the link on the US-page http://www.giveawayoftheday.com
But I do see it on the Dutch page http://nl.giveawayoftheday.com
Posted 9 years ago # -
It's there for me at 8:20 AM Eastern.
Posted 9 years ago # -
I see the direct link as well, now that I've adjusted the monitor setting for the page.
I do notice, however, that the US page wants to load additional scripts that are not loaded on the Dutch page. Maybe one of those additional scripts is causing a problem for some?

Unfortunately, GotD has removed the direct link again . . .

Unfortunately, GotD has removed the direct link again . . .
Still gone this morning in the US.

This morning I first had to ask for a link via email. But it did not come so quickly as last time, so I tried once again. The second time the giveaway zip downloaded directly.

Not to worry.
One of the options is still to visit a website that has the giveawayoftheday ticker on it
f.e. (one of many) :PCWelt.de (German)
