   Today's Giveaway of the Day - eCover Engineer installed paint.net on my PC in addition to to their own program. I already had paint.net installed on a different drive. At no time during the installation was I informed that a second program would be installed. I was given a choice as to where to install eCover but not paint.net. I also did not see anything at the publisher website that made me aware that this was to install paint.net.

   In my opinion, this is totally unacceptable. I have no objection to paint.net because as I already stated, I do have a copy installed on a different drive. Nor do I blame Giveaway of the Day. I was actually happy to see the program listed as I am helping some of the teachers in the local schools obtain good free software to help enhance their classroom environment but this just seems wrong on so many levels that I am left near speechless.

   I also found that out also.

   They even bundled in an old version of paint.NET.

   Maybe you need to just uninstall paint.NET.

   As a developer, I would have my own software check to see if Paint.NET was already installed - and use that installation if possible. Secondly give the user the option to update the the latest version of Paint.NET if required.

   While I haven't installed the software - I would be interested to know what happens to the "eCover Engineer" copy of Paint.NET. Will it remove Paint.NET during eCover uninstall.

   What if there was an existing copy already installed - will eCover remove that as well.

   I would suggest that the setup ettiquette needs to be reviewed for eCover Engineer for the next release of their program.

   eCover Engineer v5.5 still works after removal of piant.NET

   When I uninstalled eCover Engineer v5.5 it left behind the paint.net program and I had to run a separate uninstall for it.

   Bethany,

   I originally posted here something trying to defend Paint.net, but then I went back and re-read your original post; I read the part where you are already familiar with Paint.net.

   So now, I will just throw my opinion with yours agreeing with the fact that this program really should not have installed Paint.net without prompting the user first.
