I was wondering if anyone is familiar with the Nancy Drew games and if so which one(s) do you like best? There are a bunch of them.....someone said there's about 17, though I've not found quite that many as yet. Anyway, I have a credit at BigFish and would like to get one of them but they are not available on a free trial basis and I'm not sure which one I should go for. Any pros/cons you can offer would be appreciated. thanks

Hello Buckleysmom,
I have ND - Legend of the Crystal Skull, ND - The Haunted Carousel and just used a BF credit for ND - Lights, Camera, Curses. They got rave reviews from players and review sites so I took the chance of no demo. I must confess, I had not played this type of game previously so I have found the first two to be complicated. However, they are wonderfully done and of an acceptable length. The newest Nancy Drew is more of a combination Adventure/Hidden Object game and I'm enjoying this one quite alot.
If you enjoy these types of games, I think you will be pleased with any of these. Gamezebo usually has very good reviews and I know they reviewed these.

I've got all of the Nancy Drew games, and I love them. My favorite of the bunch is The Curse of Blackmoor Manor. I also highly recommend Ghost Dogs of Moon Lake, Danger on Deception Island and Treasure in the Royal Tower.
You can find combo packs of these games in stores like Target and Best Buy, sometimes five in one box, for about $20. You can also look on Amazon or Gogamer.com to see if they have older combo sets (as well as newer ones) if you can't find them in the stores. I do know there is a combo pack out right now, because I saw it on the shelf yesterday at Target, but I didn't pick it up to see which games are in it, as I own them. Now, I wish I would have looked more closely at it, so I could post them. Sorry!

I demo'd "ND The Haunted Carousel"(I got a demo disk mailed to me from BigFish)I really liked what I got to play, I have some other ones to demo, but so little time so many nice games to try. It is the only ND I've played but I was really surprised how well it was done and how much I did like it. It is a puzzle/mystery much like the old text adventures but with pictures and voice acting(which is well done too.)I will certainly look at Target for the combo packs, I would love to love to get some of them. Thanks for the tip.
Right now the grandkids and I are playing "Treasure Seekers, Visions of Gold". (A brother and sister searching for their pirate grandmothers gold:) Very fun for a brother, sister and their grandmother to play:))) It too is a very well done game that is great to look at, the music and sounds just right, not annoying and just the right kind of puzzles that aren't too hard but aren't boring easy either. They are waiting for me right now so they can play again.:) Oh, they are 7 and 5, the 7 year old plays video games as well as I do, better actually as he can hold his own with those online games.
My oldest son gave me his "Portal" game disk as he bought again for his XBox...it looks awesome and fun but I know it will be a challenge for me.Posted 16 years ago # -
I haven't checked out any of the Nancy Drew games, though I have thought about doing so, several times. I got one of those demo disks, too. It says on the back cover that there are 2 ND games, so will try one or both out. :)

Thanks for all the comments and info it's all very helpful. I used my BF credit to get "Legend of the Crystal Skull" and Gamehouse just gave away "The White Wolf of Icicle Creek". I'm also going to check out Target's combo packs.....that sounds like a good deal.....thanks. I love these games!

I'm a Nancy fan also... playing "White Wolf" (free w/ ads) from GameHouse right now. Got a combo pack on special about two years ago with 4 of the older ones. Would love to play the highly rated ones mentioned, and temptation is wearing thin. So neat to get the "free" one, hey Buckleysmom? The ads are pretty quick and don't really bother me.

Check here for reviews: http://www.justadventure.com/Reviews.shtm#N
Legend looks like a good choice. The review for Shadow Ranch is not very good so be careful about that. Also, from personal experience, be careful about the very early games. They were still learning to create the games then and some of them are a little rough around the edges plus graphics may not be as good. Also, the reviews may be a little inflated relative to later games as the reviews are compared to other titles at the period of time. Many of the double packs have older games. This doesn't mean they aren't any good. Just, buyer beware that they may be a little dated.

midori.....I agree, the ads don't bother me either, and you really only have to wait a few seconds before you can close them......well worth it for the freebies. I'm hoping to stop by Target tomorrow to see what they have.......oooh......the spider after the fly.....hee hee hee
Campy......Thanks.....I'll check that out before I hit Target tomorrrow.

I have the two from Gamehouse too!
I am almost through the dossier one and am STUCK in the White wolf one.
Let me know if you start playing either; they are both fun!

I had never played a Nancy Drew game until the free White Wolf one on gamehouse. To quote one of my son's favorite comments when he was about 4 yrs old: I'm not liking it too much.
Two thumbs down from my house.
The Nightshift Legacy - The Jaguar's Eye was pretty entertaining, but completed in just a few short hours, so I'm glad it was free. [Another gamehouse d/l.]

Hi, LisaKay... lol at your reaction to Nancy Drew. That genre of games definitely does tend to have a love/hate opinion out there... if you're not used to them, you end up feeling lost and frustrated. I got hooked on RPGs back when Myst was released, but could I picture my hubby playing one for more than 1 minute? No way. But others do enjoy the immersion and the "now what the heck do I do" sleuthing feeling that goes with it. Haven't played the Jaguar's Eye yet, but free is great for the short ones!

Merri, I believe the Dossier one is the one I am playing, although I haven't played it for a little while, now. If I'm not mistaken, that's the one where she is investigating a missing person and money, and the people she is questioning want her to do all sorts of things to help them in order for them to have time to help her, and then half the time they can't, or don't have the time to help her AFTER she has just helped them with some task or another.

Maybe there are more than one under the, "dossier " name..Mine is officially known as "Lights, Camera, Curses"(lol)
It is about a movie set and a supposed curse associated with a movie done in the 1930's..
I have gotten to a timed portion of the game which quite frankly I do not like.
I hate being rushed in a game!
I will get through this but it IS a bother (I have so far tried 6 times, but no luck yet to get past ..)
The one you mention sounds like it could be frustrating too!
:)Posted 16 years ago # -
That's the same game, Merri. It's Nancy Drew (R) - Dossier (TM) - Lights, Camera, Curses! I was thinking about playing it a bit more before heading off to bed, tonight. I don't even recall where I left off with it...lol. What part of the game are you at?

Hi Sue!
Oh ok!!
I am ALMOST through it but got to a spot where you have to match up crows that have different coloured bands on their legs with like coloured objects..It gives VERY little time to do it..
(and the crows legs are only visable once in a while..)
Once I am through Syberia 2, I will go back to it.
What about you?
Where are you in it?Posted 16 years ago # -
Well, Merri, as it turns out, I had the wrong game in mind. I have been trying to remember the name of the game I was describing to you, and can't. Oh well, I guess soon enough it will come to me...(chuckle). The one I had in mind is a hidden object game - that much I recall...lol.
Sue - who is soon to be off to bed! :)
Posted 16 years ago # -
Oh that's ok Sue!!
I will be interested to know what it is!
(I have a mind like a sieve these days..lol)
Take care..
