The only 2 places really you should download stuff for Android are Google's Play store & Amazon's App store. Amazon also has their underground store app with thousands of games free, the catch being that app also tried to sell you stuff. If you want to see why I only recommend those 2 sites, check out some of the info re: Android at securelist[.]com

There is one hiccup with the Amazon Underground. The app needed for it is not available for Android tablets. It is available for Android phones and is built-in to the Fire OS for the Fire tablets but there is currently no way to get the app on an Android tablet -- I've tried and I've called to ask about it.
The games themselves are great and even the in-app purchases are free for an Underground game. They really are "Actually Free".
They somehow pay the developers for the time each user plays the game but that doesn't mean you have to have wi-fi turned on while playing. I have no idea how it works. All I can say is Kris Pixton (K-Pix games) does not put her games in the program.

I have Amazon Underground installed on my tablet- a 7" Asus from AT&T. The only thing is they show an ad almost every time you start one of the apps. Otherwise, a decent system. I do miss the free apps of the day though. Unlike here and Appgratis, the apps were (well, still are) permanently in your library to install at will (as long as the app remains on the store).

How did you get it on your tablet? I tried to get it on my Trio tablet and it wanted a phone number to use to send it. It's not a phone!

I'm pretty sure I just went to:
https://www.amazon.com/undergroundusing the browser on the tablet and followed the directions on that page. It uploads the app to your tablet, then you have to find and run it (after making sure to allow apps from unknown sources) (I believe it mentions the download in the notifications so you don't have to use a file manager, but I don't remember for sure).
If it doesn't work, try a different browser like Dolphin or Firefox.

I finally got it to work. Originally, it would not access the app from a tablet but I did get it to work. It seemed to crash the tablet late (message that system UI shut down) and I had to hard boot to get it back up.
I was able to download and install one game so I know it works. I'm still trying to get my hands on one certain game to see if it works on my Trio. It fails on my Fire HDX (3rd generation) but runs on my Fire (5th generation). I want to see what my Trio does.
Because of the really really poor system organization of this tablet, I can only use it to test games that fail on my fires. My machine has 16 GB but restricts 1.45 GB for "system" usage and 11.22 GB for "user" storage. Unfortunately, GOOGLE takes up 90% of that 1.48GB! That's with moving as much as I can to "user storage". I've disabled a lot of the Google apps but some won't stay disabled!

This won't be any help to you, Dragonlair -- Sorry -- but to those who find themselves in a similar situation, maybe check to see if there is a [official or unofficial] cyanogenmod ROM for your device. I took to Google to see if there was anything for a Trio, but didn't find anything but a few requests.
I have a Galaxy Tab 2 7, which was originally a somewhat expensive tablet that's now ancient in Android years. It was full of Samsung bloatware, & as time went on & app updates piled on, it became almost too slow & doggy to use. Removing apps & such did nothing to help. The latest official cyanogenmod ROM I could find was KitKat I think, so I went with an unofficial version with Marshmallow.
It wasn't difficult, though I made a mistake, not following directions exactly, instead using a later version of an app than what was listed, and I should not have. The result isn't perfect, the Tab 2 7 does not perform like it did when I first took it out of the box, but it is once again very usable.

mikiem2,
I tried to contact the makers of my Trio and all I got was a note that if it were still in warranty, I could SEND it to them and they would "fix" it but since it's out of warranty, it's not an option.
The main purpose for the Trio is still valid. It has a lifetime FREE 200 MB/month 4G connection for internet through T-Mobile. It's not a phone but we keep that 200 MB/Month for backup purposes in case wi-fi goes down (usually because of a power failure) and we have to have some connection. I know, 200 MB/month doesn't go far but it's an emergency backup.
For the most part, we use the laptop or the Fires for anything that we can't use the desktop for.
