For anyone who's keyboard is getting soggy or who's mouse is getting cheezy, there's a really nice Microsoft Digital Pro keyboard for $5.90 (save 85%), and a Razor DeathAdder Gaming Mouse for $29.90 (50% off). I always keep an extra keyboard on hand because of all the typing I do, and now I'm trying to persuade myself I need the mouse. *M:-D

Thanks Midori; the mouse sounds cool. What I need though is a dedicated left handed contoured mouse. I use a Microsoft Wireless intellimouse v2.0 at the moment. but it's designed for a right handed person. I'm left handed, so miss out on he comfort and rarely use mouse buttons 4 and 5 because they are not easily accessible. :(

Shoot, wrabbit... this one did say contoured for the right hand. What's wrong with those mouse people?! Half the people I know are left-handed it seems. I have a good ol' Microsoft intellimouse also, but not wireless as they feel too heavy for me. Couldn't believe two lil batteries did that, but back came my carpal tunnel. I like it, but sometimes it winks out on me. Have had it since day 1, computer 1. Wow. =:-o

I never thought of the extra weight before. that could explain why my left had often aches when I've been using th mouse for several hours, lol.

True, it can make a difference! I had bought a wireless Logitech that felt nice in my hand, and lo and behold got the good ol' carpal symptoms after using it for just an hour. I said, "oh baloney... what difference can two little batteries make," but it did definitely feel heavier than my Microsoft. Of course in the store it wasn't hooked up with batteries, so felt fine. But I thought it was all in my mind and tried it again the next day. There came the pain and had to put the braces back on! Switched back to the wired mouse and all was fine. Gave it one more go, then returned it to the store now convinced it made a big difference to me. So now I just clip my wire aside where it won't get in the way. Some say they don't notice a difference, but I was really surprised how strongly it affected my wrist.

I've got a Microsoft Intellimouse (thanks to WR's suggestion) and the instructions say to make it lighter, just use one battery instead of 2, so that's what I've been doing ever since I had it.
I had carpal tunnel operated on, on both wrists at the same time, but if I overuse the mouse or anything else I get the symptoms back again.
Strangely, I'm seriously left handed, but use the mouse in my right hand. That's how I first started with the mouse and how I kept on going. It feels strange when I try and use the mouse with my left hand now (well, we ARE talking many years, here, lol)

Interesting, Nola... who would think it would work on just one battery. But glad it works for you! Don't know why they don't use those weightless little button batteries... or do they now. Just have stuck with wired since that experience.
Wow, I didn't have an operation, but was really in pain and would wear the braces almost all the time. I type a lot in my work, and also used to do a lot of very detailed technical graphics, and struggling to be so precise with the mouse is when I first noticed it. Now I mainly do typing AND gaming as usual and seem to be getting along fine, tho I do keep those braces handy.
And good for you for being ambidextrous with that mouse! Or really, right-handed with it. I know an artist who writes with his left hand but paints mainly with his right. My left hand is a struggle to use, except for typing and two-handed things. Aren't we all unique!

Yeah, I'd noticed that you could run it off one battery. Useful if you're short of batteries; not that I ever run out as I always have several AA and AAA sized batteries charged up ready for action.

I dont mean to do anything against any rules here (so I hope this isnt) but before I got my current laptop I use to find myself buy lots of parts to keep my second (or third or ??) hand computers going. Not to mention that I have found a lot of different gadgets for people looking for them at a budget (yes, I am getting to the point), but check out geeks.com if you are looking for them. I know that they always have a great deal going on. I have had only three problems. One didnt work and they one day mailed me a replacement and ups return. The other was a cordless guitar for my youngest to play guitar hero. It arrived with a cord. They let me keep it and rushed out another quickly. It arrived with a cord as well. I got the right one 3 days later with a letter apologizing about their warehouse numbers getting wrong on the order and that for my trouble I got to keep all three and got a discount code. So I really find it hard to count that as a problem.
I know that they have A LOT of mice..mouses...mousi.. what is plural for that? Keyboards and package deals with both as well. Dont hold me to it WhiteRabbit, but I think I saw a left handed one on there a few days ago.

Try here: http://www.saitek.com/uk/prod/mice.htm
and here: http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/mice_pointers/mice/&cl=us,enThis is my keyboard, just the regular Eclispe with red, they didn't have the others when I bought mine!

I see that Logitech doesn't carry my mouse anymore, it's a media mouse, lol...that sounded funny!
My game controller is a Saitek...this is the closest I could come to what it looks like, but mine has the rumble feature...guess they changed them on me too!http://www.saitek.com/uk/prod/p990.htm
This is more like it, wonder why it wasn't on the UK site? Mine doesn't look as geeky as the pictures, lol!

Thanks midori, but have a lot of spares...kind of like shoes, I keep collecting them!

Hi folks,
I use a wireless laptop mouse, it's small and light. Great for a woman's smaller hand.
I love it. I always seem to drop or break those larger mice.Suki I checked out the Logitech link you posted, saw two mice I'd love to have, but I know hubby would have a baby if i spent 99.00 on a mouse let alone 149.00. I may have to dip into my stash and say I won one. LOL

I'm surprised the mice that eat batteries seem to use AA and AAA.
Surely the silver "coin" style watch batteries would be lighter and use less space (perhaps not much use for the rumble style mice - but for the bog standard optical mouse - they would be ideal).

I have a wireless Logitech for my laptop too, which is nice and light...my batteries just died in it...I swear they have been in the mouse for over a year and I don't take out the usb stick!BuBBy
I think your idea is good, but I hate those tiny little things, they are also more expensive I think...that's why I always buy mice you can turn off, lol!Anyone have any mice/mouse trivia on why they called them that besides the size and that some still come with tails?

Well... there you go....
In 1964, the first prototype computer mouse was made to use with a graphical user interface (GUI), 'windows'. Engelbart received a patent for the wooden shell with two metal wheels (computer mouse U.S. Patent # 3,541,541) in 1970, describing it in the patent application as an "X-Y position indicator for a display system." "It was nicknamed the mouse because the tail came out the end," Engelbart revealed about his invention.

Good links for Wrabbit, Suki... everything I looked up last night only said "interchangeable" but not specifically left-handed. That Logitech MX610 Left-Handed Cordless Laser is the first I've seen that states that in particular. It's shaped the exact opposite as the right-handed one. Check it out, Stephen!
And thanks, BuBBy, for the mouse lesson. You saved me looking it up! So it's all about the tail. Maybe the Farmer's Wife got to the cordless ones. What awful nursery rhymes we used to be subjected to! "|:-x

Whoa, good thing I grabbed that mouse yesterday... they're out of stock now. It's madness! Lol.
BTW to ibwebb... I checked out the geeks.com site... wow, what prices!! $3, $4 for mice... I'll be sure to check there when needs arise. Thanks for mentioning it. :)

Thanks Suki,
If I find an ergonomic left handed mouse I'll buy it. So long as it has at least five programmable buttons.
Posted 16 years ago # -
Strange... I'm also left handed but after many years of right-handed mouse use I've adapted and now if I try to use a left handed mouse - it just feels "dirty". :P
Thinking of those catholic nuns, who years ago would whack (with a ruler) the back of childrens hands - to train left handed children to write using their "correct" hand...
I'm left handed for everything - except I "lowered my standards" in terms of mouse usage (all the best mice were only right handed).

I wouldn't mind getting a new keyboard for my main computer. The one I have works fine, but makes a somewhat annoying sound when my son types on it. The newer keyboards don't do that. The one that came with this computer died, and I had to take the son's one that goes to a computer he wasn't using, that has since been banished to computer 'heaven'.
Now, as for mice - for both of our computers, we are using the mi 3-button optical mouse...a $10.00 job that, so far, works very well for us, and is light-weight and comfortable to use.

Thought I'd bring this back up to the front. They are having a great sale on games right now. I have most of them already, but am picking up a few.

pps I found 4 games that I wanted, but unfortunately they only sell within the US. (Jade empire and Cossacks were the main ones that iiii'd liked to have purchased (I have cossacks, but only in Polish, so rarely play it because the menus are impossible to work out, lol) - if anyone would buy that for me I'd remburse them via PayPal, it would include the postage and packaging to the UK as well, which if I remeber for a couple of DVDs in there boxes costs about $10, PM me if you're willing to do that for me. The total cost of oth games and the postage and packaging should be in the region of $15. I'll gladly transfer that amount if you will get them now. There's only a day left for the dael though and the cheapr ones sell out quickly. :) )
Posted 15 years ago # -
Hey Stephen you know I would gladly purchase them for you, but I'm not sure it's a good deal for your in the long run. It would cost you like $20 to get these two games that I'm sure you could get cheaper from amazon or ebay or something or even a local shop. Think about it and let me know, and I will purchase them for you in a heartbeat. =)
Posted 15 years ago # -
You are probably right Wizz. hopefully steam will have Jade empire as a deal again soon. They seem to repeat quite a lot of deals. cossacks can wait. I've not played the later versions that I bought last year yet (though The Art of War, which is the first one is the best in my opinion). Thanks for the offer though.
