I saw that with Big Fish, because I get their newsletters, but haven't seen it with GameHouse. I am a fan of both sites, and will be better able to buy the games I now play with ads...:D
Sue - who might just be able to get Call of Atlantis, now...hee hee

It's only $5.99, minimum, for GameHouse Club members. It's still $19.99 per game.

Definitely a sign of the times. You can see why the game giveeaway project is struggling to get any games. Those prices are just amazing, especially for the quality of many of the games available. I've recently bought several games via steam, all of which have cost me less than the price of what an arcade game was costing just over a year ago (Tunnel Rats Zeno Clash (got half price when it was still a pre-order), Dark Messiah, Dark Sector plus others and they are all great or amazing games.
You can get any arcade game from Reflexive or Pie Eyed Games for $9.99, yet some developers like Alawar are still charging $19.99 for most games.

I was happy to see that too especially at BigFish. The drawback at Gamehouse is that you have to commit to one game a month.....BigFish has no limits....unless I'm reading things wrong. They both require club membership for these prices which is no big deal.
COOL!WR....Re: your last comment.....yeh, it always amazes me that you can get things cheaper from a 3rd party....not just games but anything. Go figure.

No, you're not reading things wrong, BK. Big Fish has changed their prices for everyone. GameHouse is still the same price they have been. BF's new price isn't just for the club members, now, but for everyone.

I just went back to Game House (for some reason...can't remember now) and saw that at the top of the home page it says $5.99 per game for everyone, yet on the purchase page it says $19.99 per game, if you're not a FunPass member. Sounds a bit confusing to me.

where are you guys getting this info about big fish games? i've been with them for a long time and its ALWAYS been $6.99, the only difference now is that you are forced to join their game club. And yes you are commited to one game a month.

This is the newsletter I got from them. Now granted, it does say Big Fish Game Club, but upon testing as though I was going to buy a game, I noted that the price listed was $6.99. I am not a Club member, btw.
Newsletter
-----------Dear Big Fish Games Customer,
We are pleased to announce exciting changes to Big Fish Game Club!
We have eliminated the $19.99 price for games. We simplified our Big Fish Game Club pricing to a single $6.99 price point for all games and removed the requirement for any recurring monthly charges by allowing you to activate or cancel your Big Fish Game Club membership online at any time via the My Account section of Big Fish Games.
Every game is now only $6.99 at Big Fish Games.

If you look at the wording of your email, you still have to be a game club member - there just is no longer any monthly commitment and no different club levels. The game price for any non club member still remains $19.99. Without the required commitments, though, there is no longer any reason not to become a member.

Just checked the site, and you're right, it does appear that the pricing is $6.99 without a gameclub membership, though I didn't go through with the purchase.
Posted 15 years ago # -
Sorry for the 3rd post - but they do ask you to log in to make the purchase, which means you do have to have an account at Bigfish.

One last comment and I'm gone - although there are no longer any commitments, Bigfishgames will still bill your credit card monthly for the $6.99 unless you cancel your membership when you purchase a game. From their membership page: http://bigfishgames.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/907/session/L3NpZC9TR0FsVU54ag==
How does the membership work?
Big Fish Game Club is an ongoing monthly subscription service with no minimum purchases and no commitments. Each month that you’re a member, your payment method is charged $6.99 for one (1) game credit. This credit can then be redeemed for any game on our site! Your billing date will remain the same day each month, unless you cancel.
Try out Big Fish Game Club for free when you make your first purchase. You can cancel before your next billing date and you won't be charged again.

Yes, you have to have an account with Big Fish, but that is free. Heck, I don't mind having to have an account and sign in, when it is free...(chuckle).

yes if you go through as if you were making the purchase it lists it as $6.99 and has the game club logo next to it, if you buy it, you are joining the club, you have no choice. pay closer attention. you are commited to 1 game a month unless you cancel.

Whoseline, I did see that. I, too, feel one should not automatically be joined up to a club that will automatically bill you month to month, even if you aren't buying a game. One thing I can say for them is that, apparently, they do make it easy to cancel the membership. I used to belong to RealArcade's GamePass (I think that's what it's called). If you want to cancel that membership, you have to call a certain number, and go through this interaction with someone who doesn't speak your language, and tell them what you want to do, and hope they understand you, and process your request correctly. I did that, and went through that, and will not subscribe again because of that. With Big Fish, you can cancel right there on line; you don't have to make a phone call.

RE: BIG FISH MONTHLY COMMITMENT FOR GAME CLUB MEMBERS
Here is a copy of the body of the letter I received from Big Fish re the change in game club requirements:
"We are pleased to announce exciting changes to Big Fish Game Club!
We have removed monthly commitment periods which will allow you to activate or cancel your Big Fish Game Club membership online at any time via the My Account section of Big Fish Games. We have also standardized our pricing to only $6.99 for all members. There are no longer Jumbo, Casual or Super members, just Big Fish Game Club members.
Your current membership was automatically converted and any remaining commitments have been removed– no action is required on your part.
You can buy as many additional games as you want at the same low price. Every game is now only $6.99 at Big Fish Games."
Please note the second last paragraph which would seem to clearly indicate you do not have to cancel your current account....it will be done automatically. Just to have things cleared up for myself, I have written to them and asked for clarification. I will share their response when I receive it.

Was just reading about BigFish last night! Fabulous! And I joined a long time ago to get the free games offered, but the $6.99 price is great, without having to make a year's commitment. Thanks for verifying all the info, Sandy and everyone else. Other sites ought to wise up that the $19.99 fee per game is becoming a thing of the past... RealArcade, for one. And even with their GamePass, it's still $9.99. They used to be my favorite site, but are quickly becoming the underdog for games.

Sandy, I wonder why your newsletter is different from mine, although it still says the games are all $6.99 for everyone, now. Yours has more detail than mine.

RosnSC.....I have no clue why we would get different letters. I did a "copy" and "paste" to make sure I didn't leave anything out. My daughter also received the exact same letter. As I indicated, I did request support from BF and asked them to clarify the "monthly" commitment, and whether or not I have to cancel my membership in order to remove this commitment. Will let ya know as soon as they get back to me....said 48 hours ;).

RosnSC...et al,
This is the most convoluted response from Big Fish....but here it is. In order to stop the monthly withdrawal from your $$$ resource (Credit Card, bank, etc.), you have to cancel your membership. Then, if you want to purchase a game for $6.99, you have to reactivate it, then after you have purchased the game...cancel it again. Chris, from the support team, wrote back to me....very long e-mail explaining. Nutshell....cancel membership to cancel monthly charge, reactivate to purchase game for $6.99, immediate cancel after purchase! Repeat this process every time you want to purchase a game from BF...unless of course you want all the benefits of a game club membership...i.e. beta testing, first dibs on new games, etc.!!!!!! lol....what a rigamarole. But that's it. When they wrote back to me, they cancelled my membership for me! lol....oh my ;)
Have a great week.
