Nice one Devil dog Also you can get Secrets of Monkey Island, special edition from Steam for 50% of the usual price of £6.99, that's £3.49p (around $5) The special edition has the ability to swap between the original release and the updated version. The graphics in the updated version are rendered in glorious technicolor. The whole thing looks like a recently made Disney cartoon film. The abilty to swap seamlessly to the original is a nice touch, but is probably only going to be appreciated by die hard fanatics who bought this the first time around. You'll need the free Steam client installed and a free Steam account to buy the game. The offer ends Monday evening.

Remember to log into your TellTale account first, or else they'll create a new account instead of using your existing one! Go to telltalegames.com and sign in, and then if you don't see the "Get a Free Game" page, click on the TellTale logo. This way, the free game'll be merged into your account with your previous purchases!
So because I didn't log in first, I've gotten an extra code. I guess I'll give it away some time...

I have a question to TellTale, it seems I'm too tired to find the answer on their side.
When I download this chapter of the game (or any other game) is it mine for all time, can I play it off-line, or is there some box or client I have to install and is the game DRM infected?I'm a wee bit paranoid related to DRM.

I remember downloading Bone 1 from them a few months ago, and guess what it came with? SecuROM. They moved from Armadillo, then to something random, and now it's SecuROM. Seriously...
My biggest annoyance with is that it won't launch with Process Explorer running. What's the big deal? Am I going to hack the package and extract the DRM-free file? If the SecuROM people is so concerned about Process Explorer, then they should think at their selves and ask "What could we improve instead of annoying users?"As for the game, I think you can play it offline. I'm not sure however because the SecuROM has put me off. But I remember that the game doesn't need an internet connection. Once you activate it, you can play it at any time.

Thanks, GMMan.
I'm afraid, that I soon can't play any game, when I try to avoid DRM. Until now I withstood even the most generous bargains of Steam or Gamehouse...Posted 15 years ago # -
So is the consensus here then that we should not download this game? I am in the process of downloading it right now, but have not yet installed it.

Oh, no, Jenany, that's a funny game and a legit site with a legit download. It's just my paranoia with the DRM.
http://en.lmgtfy.com/?q=DRMI think that the Digital Rights Management is a violation of my rights as a consumer.
When I have bought a game I will own it. But Steam or Gamehouse or whoever has the right to deactivate my game on my system, theoretical when they like to do that. Or more likely, when the company closes their doors one day. Sorry graylox, we think you have played enough with this game, we have deactivated it on your system.I'm sure others can explain that better than I can.
So have fun with your game - BTW, I have already downloaded it, but not yet installed.

This game is also available today to US residents from Amazon.com. It's totally self-contained once it's downloaded. The requirements say internet connection required for download. Mouse/keyboard required for gameplay.
166 MB download from Amazon but it's still free. Since it seems to be advertised free for this one day elsewhere, I don't expect it to be any longer from Amazon.

Thumbs up, my fair Lady Gray. Me too. I was thinking of downloading it until you asked the "million dollar" question? We already pay extra for any blank media(tapes, CD's, and DVD's) here. We are assumed guilty before the fact.
Amazon Secretly Removes "1984" From the Kindle - Books - io9 Makes you feel all warm and fuzzy doesn't it?

Thanks, devildog... have always wanted to play this one. And thanks for the alternative, Dragonlair. :)

I checked out the free one mentioned by Devil dog and am now going to buy the one via steam. Great little game. Oddly after downloading it from the site mentioned above, I didn't have to input a registration code for it to work?

I couldn't get it to play on my computer and I uninstalled it.

It plays on my PC but is VERY slow. The voices and animation don't match and trying to get any response from the mouse is like pulling teeth! I may or may not keep it.
If you get it from Amazon.com, you get an email with a code so you get a discount ($2.45 I think) off each subsequent chapter. The code is good until January of 2010, if I remember right.
With a 166 MB download, I expected a huge install but it's only 19 MB larger than the install program.

Cool, thanks everyone! I downloaded it, went grocery shopping, and then came back HERE to the forums before I proceeded to install it. Looks like fun!!!

Is anyone else having a really-really-really slow and barely responsive mouse problem with this one? Shoot. It's really unplayable the way it is. Wonder if it would help to lower the graphics quality. Guess I'll try that... just wondered if anyone has had the problem and "fixed" it. Thankees.
Posted 15 years ago # -
There is a scale for "quality". I tried lowering that and it didn't affect it. I also found it so slow as to be unplayable. Just for the record, I'm running it as 1024X768 resolution on a Vista32 Ultimate SP2 machine.
It's not just you.

Thanks, Dragonlair... yeesh! Whaddaya need to play this?

According to their support forum, Midori, we are NOT alone. There were lots of users complaining about it. Some said if you lower the resolution it might help. I need to send them an email because they say they are fixing the problem but since I got it from Amazon, not them, I don't know how to get any fix!

evry1 help me. I downloaded and i can play the tales of monkey island but its too slow in my PC.. what can i do?? i have Dual-core CPU E5300 @ 2.60GHZ 1GB ram GeForce 7300 in Windows XP SP2... i really want 2 play it....

Lower the graphics quality. You may have to lower it to it's minimum which definitely affects the quality of what you see. It does seem to help sync the sound/graphics.
I have similar problems with ALL tell-tale games I've played so I've just given up on them entirely. They're not my "cup-of-tea" anyway.

you are on the wrong forum!
but probably it's because you've got an ancient video card and you're only running with one gig of ram. in fact your entire computer is very old. the machine you're running was fine in 2003 but games have moved on, even relatively simple ones like ToMI.
you should consider a replacement pc if you don't feel confident getting in there and mucking around yourself (although replacing a video card and upgrading ram are the two easiest things you can do inside a computer, and also the two most effective ways to upgrade game performance).
even two or three hundred dollars will bring your computer up to modern specs -- good enough to play this game, at least, if not the heavy duty recent shooters at their highest settings.
one other thing you can do, if you aren't doing it already: quit any other applications before you play, especially itunes, word, and your browser -- they are all big memory hogs! and of course, run with minimum graphic settings.

I don't think that's true at all, he's well within the system requirements:
OS: Windows XP / Vista
Processor: 2.0 GHz + (3 GHz Pentium 4 or equivalent rec.)
Memory: 512MB (1GB rec.)
Graphics: 64MB DirectX 8.1-compliant video card (128MB rec.)
DirectX®: Version 9.0c or betterThe video card isn't the best, but it's still within spec.
Check this thread for some helpful suggestions:
http://www.telltalegames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17564Here's the link for the DirectX updater:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=2DA43D38-DB71-4C1B-BC6A-9B6652CD92A3&displaylang=enAnd here's where you can update your graphics card drivers:
http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-usYou might want to upgrade the video card and RAM at some point, but I don't think either is necessary for this game.
Hope that helps!
