So, upon buying and installing Galactic civilizations (I decided not to download the demo, because it was only 99 cents), I found that it starts up the process, but never appears. I never get an error message, it just looks like the program doesn't do anything. I have reinstalled it, and tried every compatibility setting. This has happened to me before with free games that I was going to try, but I didn't even try to make them work, because they were free. I have an Intel graphics card with the latest driver. Any ideas?

Try using an earlier version of the driver. You should be able to roll back to an earlier version via the system properties window, just click on the hardware tab. (in XP go to control panel and select Performance and Maintainance, then click on System, this brings up the system properties window. From the hardware tab select Device Manager then Display adapters. Click on the appropriate hardware device for example the name of your graphics card. This brings up another window. Click on the Driver tab. From here you can roll back to a previous version of the didplay driver.
Sometimes the latest drivers are not always the best.
