I am having difficulties with the download. Every time I try to activate the program the GOTD acquiring activation key freezes and I have to reboot ??

Thank you for the redirect. I had already looked there. There is no error code. I have been downloading from GOTD for over two years and this is the first time something has frozen. (Three times in a row) I have never had a firewall problem before. Is there any reason to think it would start doing that randomly? :/
Hmmm, it did the same thing on my other pc too.

My PC really doesn't like the registration routine and I have the same problem that you describe with every download... so I don't download many programs.
Try closing any anti-spyware and anti-malware software that you have running along with the recommended steps for the firewall and anti-virus. That usually works for me but it also disturbs me so, again, I don't download many programs. Note that spyware and malware scans following installation do not show any problems nor do the programs provide any alerts - the system just hangs.

Well..I agree with lady Gray.
Be sure the firewall rules allow 'setup' to connect (or rebuild them from scratch if they are mixed up),IE isn't set to work 'offline' when using other browsers..and to run 'setup' as admin to avoid uac issues.Posted 14 years ago # -
The main problem is usually related to connecting via a proxy.
As well as the usually way to connect via a proxy - some firewalls, or antivirus/malware programs can use a type of proxy connection (they might call it something like "net scan" or similar) - basically so that network traffic up and back passes through the firewall/antivirus etc like a form or router.
To disable your firewall or antivirus/malware software isn't so much to do with allowing something that could be "potentially dangerous" through your protection - but just to simplify your connection with as few "obstacles" in between.
The registration definitely works - there can be tens of thousands of people who do so successfully every day. In every case the problem always comes down to something related to firewall, antivirus/antimalware or the network setup.
It is possible (though unlikely) that your network connection could be stuffed up by a "well meaning" Internet provider who is routing all your internet traffic through a proxy server (on their side).
To find out if your traffic is going via a proxy server - visit http://whatismyipaddress.com/ (This works in most cases - but you could always phone your Internet helpdesk and just asking them to rule it out).
A good suggestion (if you have a good helpdesk) - call and ask them to try the download and activation - to make sure it isn't their network setup (or if you have a neighbour using the same ISP). At least if you can rule out the internet from your house to GOTD - it lets you focus on your own PC.
Also something I found one user had the problem that their C: drive was full (literally) and the setup program didn't have enough space to run. (Yes it sounds silly, but it has happened in the past).
For users who setup works just fine (for weeks and months) and then suddenly stops - thing about what you may have installed/uninstalled or changed that could have affected it. Sometimes (if it was recent) just going back to a previous System Restore point - or uninstalling the most recent program you installed can fix the problem.
Finally (if it is any consolation) I've also had a week where nothing worked for me - and I tried everything I could think of - and nothing worked. Then out of the blue, it started working again. I don't know what fixed it - but I know for a fact nobody else was posting in the forums or on the main site that they were having the same problems as me - so it was definitely related to my own PC.

Thanks BuBBy.
So I assume if AV are running things 'sandboxed' that might complicate things as well.Posted 14 years ago # -

Anything is possible. When troubleshooting, I always try to simplify everything. Any component, program, process, or whatever between me and the interweb (ie. GOTD) I remove or exclude if possible.
Running on another PC if possible to perhaps rule out anything specific to the PC that won't connect is also a good idea. Connect as cleanly as possible.
