I lost my password and I never gave my email address to restore it. Went through REGEDIT and moved the BAK file, that did not work out. How can I reset this password? I hope you can help me as I like to use it again. The older version "HideFiles60" was at 15 Augusts 2020 given away here.

Hide Files is a lightweight app that lets you add files/folders to the program's window, as in the screenshot above on this page. When you select a file/folder and click the Lock button the selected files/folders are copied to a database in a folder in C:\ and the originals are deleted. Encryption is available with the app advising that it's slow.

Most file/folder hiding apps add a driver that prevents Windows from seeing or displaying them. However they're visible to someone booting the PC to a USB stick/drive running Windows, WinPE, Linux etc., *IF* they know to look. That is not an issue with Hide Files. If you want a more secure solution check out VeraCrypt [veracrypt.fr], which lets you encrypt a VHD [Virtual Hard Disk], a single file that can be stored pretty much anywhere.

Hmm...
Hide 3GB folder. Unhide 3GB folder and free drive size minus ~1GB.

So I don't know.

Nope! Doesn't appear to work. First, repeatedly flagged 'Passwords do not match.' Eventually, discovered a Space character allowed access to the program. Managed to change password to something more secure and encrypted a test file. Exited program, restarted PC and opened HideFiles.

Encryped test file opened without entering a password.

Something wrong, somewhere.

Blind Squirrel, but how secure is it? does it hide the file contents from a disk sector editor or a file recovery programs deep scan? Security through obscurity is ALWAYS a risky choice. Plus if you ever get put under state law enforcement magnifying glass just having a program to hide files whether it is even used or not is always a suspicion amplifier and if it's password protected could lead to unpleasant court orders to reveal the password or just show the hidden files... and if those 3rd parties are of less reputable types like state intelligence or criminals looking for your prized files you could find yourself missing fingers protecting your files or even nothing if you don't make use of the program! Stuff don't happen until it does...
