One trick I came across is to squeeze the SD card to get the computer to recognize the card. It doesn't always work though but it's at least something to try.

The registration screen says that the free version will recover 1GB and if you need more 'please buy a code'.
Is that 1GB per use or 1GB cumulative?

The Registration key to use is in the Readme.txt file in the ZIP.
The version offered here is 2.0. The version on the developer's site is 3.0, but I don't know what functional differences might be.

Does this also work on External Harddiscs like Seagate with some Terrabytes? I have two who are full of data, but they are not recognized by my computers. I hope you or others could answer my cuestion. My whole life (fotos, videos etc. are on these Discs).

Hans Oellers, An external hard drive is not memory or an SD card. I tried a flash drive, but it saw it without any problems. Maybe the external HDD is sending some specific information that makes Windows treat it as a hard drive. And the program ignores the HDD. You need a different recovery program. Specifically, software specialized for hard drives.

Hans Oellers, I had to replace my computer when my drives committed suicide. However there were some precious files I wanted, and was willing to try saving. I made the repair tech retrieve my HD he had tossed even though he told me it was no good, and I was able to use the Tccmebius docking station to get those files back!

File recovery software can't work if the OS can't access the drive.

Your problem could be Windows -- it's not that uncommon for Windows to sometimes quit recognizing a USB disk/stick. You can try something like GhostBuster -- github.com/SPOOCQ/ghostbuster

It could be the USB electronics in the external drives. Some external dries use a normal hard disk that you can try in a drive dock for example after disassembling the drive housing -- you'd have to Google for directions if the hard disk doesn't have a regular SATA interface.

And unfortunately it could be the hard disk itself -- most external housings do not provide active cooling, so drives can overheat, causing read/write to be unreliable &/or damaging the drive itself. In that case the next option would likely be to try sticking the hard disk platters in a known good hard disk -- something you may want to send to a specialist to perform.
