i'm at a loss. i installed Spirit of Wandering: The Legend, and it seems to run fine, but the top and bottom are cut off, so i can't see or use any of the controls. i've tried both full-screen and non-full-screen modes (which look exactly the same, probably because they're cut off!). i've tried various display settings: 72dpi, 96dpi, and 120dpi at 1024 x 600 and 800 x 600, the only resolutions available on my 10" acer. i'd appreciate any suggestions. if the game requires a larger minimum resolution -- i didn't find any mention in the specs -- it would be good to know so i don't bother pursuing troubleshooting. thanks!

It is pretty easy to set up a netbook with a GMA (like the Acer) to display 1024x768 on a 1024x600 screen. This link will take you to a page where this is explained. Note there is a link on that page to another page that talks about how to do this if you are running Windows 7 rather than XP. You could also do a search on the internet for a utility to do this for you, although it is easy to do yourself (but be sure and back-up your registry before you do it in case you make a mistake).
The screen will look squished a little (you are cramming 768 pixels worth of detail into 600 pixels), but it works great. I use this technique all the time to play games that require 1024x768 as a minimum resolution.

oh yeah! i'm in business now. with NRC, i could only get the higher resolution with scrolling (prolly my fault because i guessed on the modeline and settings), but your suggestion pointed me in the right direction. i did another search and found A1ctl: http://nodadev.wordpress.com/2009/08/04/a1ctl-final-version-is-here. it's acer aspire-specific and just adds 1024x768 to the available resolutions (plus other hardware tweaks), but it does what i need. thanks so much for your help!
p.s. sorry i didn't include any info on my system -- i wasn't expecting to find any solutions. fwiw for documentation: Win XP SP3 on an Acer Aspire One D250 10.1" with available resolutions of 1024x600 and 800x600.

Thanks Campy. Totally forgot I'd suggested users post here with problems last night before I went to bed. :) Glad someone was around to help.

UPDATE: it looks as if you can enter whatever custom resolution you want using the Configure options for A1ctl. also, it doesn't seem to force the display of all programs to update. i left the game running and switched back to 1024x600. the desktop was back to normal, but the game still fit on screen.
