Hey, I'm trying to revive the blog that lists all of the free games, tags them, and rates them (to make for easy searching). The last one we made was taken down (probably due to the fact that we copied and pasted from here). Should that happen again, I will
definitely contact them.
I'm also verifying that all of the links work (and if they don't, updating them). I'm going through the massive list that g@rgoyle posted http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/forums/topic/4534 first, and then going through the recent ones that didn't make it on there)
I'm not asking for help on the blog (although, if you want to, great!). Rather, I'm looking for feedback.

I'm for bringing back the blog. As implied in your post, links to the free games will eventually need to be updated methodically (as opposed to ad hoc). Maybe, linking back to the gotd forums (whenever feasible) might work better than reproducing the entries verbatim.

May I suggest you seek the blessings of the GOTD team. It is their site. They need to reach some agreement between them and GOTD as to what is expected of each other - what the limits are of this new site/blog (including using the GOTD name) or properly crediting (permission from) the original authors. In the cases where articles were copy and paste from original sites instead of reviews written from scratch - copyright issues need to be observed.
If they get all the permission from the right people - there is less need to worry that the site will be removed.
ALTERNATIVELY
We could create a new\fresh forum category - and move all of the free game posts into their own separate section in the forums (quite separate from bundle/specials/discussions/help me type of posts).
Seems to be a lot of work, simply to duplicate what is already available (though not always easily accessible).

You make a good point. I am having troubles finding any Terms and Conditions anywhere on these forums (besides bbPress, which is really wordpress). I am not sure how to contact the GOTD team (in a place that they will see).
I don't plan on using their logo, or use their name, simply link back to the forums with every post. Furthermore, because I see no terms and conditions, I don't think there is anything stopping me from copy/pasting off of the forums. (This won't stop me from getting their blessings, however. :P)
However, I do think it is important to not include reviews that were copied and pasted onto the forums. I will scan the ones I have so far, and make sure that I contact the original reviewer before using his/her work.
I don't like the Alternatively. The reason I am doing this, is to make a massive list of all of the games that is easily update-able, can be sorted according to what you like, and have ratings.
So, if anybody knows the best way to contact the GOTD team (which I'm sure you guys do), that would be awesome!Posted 12 years ago # -
Thanks BuBBy, nothing to add to your comment :)
Thename you can reach the team with PM:

I'm still having severe computer problems, even this short post takes about 10 minutes to come through all the freezings - not much more help from me for now.

Thank you! I PMed them.
Hopefully your computer gets better. Do you have any guesses as to what is causing it?Posted 12 years ago # -
Ok, they got back to me. They would like me to "consult everyone involved in the creation of the post you would like to copy to your site". Therefore, if any of you have posted content, your permission would be great. After a week, if a contributor hasn't responded, I will PM them. If they don't respond to that, I will simply post it with a link back to the forums, but no content.
Contributors I've seen so far:
Whiterabbit
reverseOrder
wizzard_of_ozz
txgoogoo
Idunnobutiwastold
creamypretzel

If the content here on the forums was copied and pasted, I will contact the author of such content.Posted 12 years ago # -
[...] If any of you have posted content, your permission would be great.
As far as I'm concerned, that's fine with me.
Edit:
Though, there may or may not be copyright hurdles to overcome.Posted 12 years ago # -
Thanks Idunno,
Though, there may or may not be copyright hurdles to overcome.
If you posted where you got the review came from (as I have seen quite a few times), then I will definitely contact them.Posted 12 years ago #
